The Spirit of Sangathan Shines at the Annual HSS (UK) Khel Pratiyogita
One of the most eagerly anticipated events in HSS (UK) calendar is the annual Khel (sports) competition, where hundreds of participants from across the country come together to compete, celebrate, and embody the true essence of unity and teamwork.
From spirited ten-year-olds to ever-youthful-sixty-plus participants, individuals of all ages proudly take part in one if three Bharatiya (Indian) sports — Kabbadi, Kho Kho, and Ring — traditional games that have now gained international recognition.
In the weeks leading up to the event, Swayamsevaks and Sevikas (Boys and Girls) dedicate themselves to intense practice and preparation, all striving to showcase their talent, fitness, and sportsmanship. Their enthusiasm culminates on the day of the competition, where every game reflects both fierce competition and friendly camaraderie.
As the matches unfold and teams progress through the rounds, the sidelines remain alive with energy — those who have been knocked out continue to cheer for others, highlighting the true spirit of Sangathan (togetherness) that bind the HSS (UK) family.
The Khel Pratiyogita is among the largest community sports tournaments in the UK, drawing a remarkable attendance of 2,000 people from 46 towns across the country. The day is a vibrant display of energy, excitement, and anticipation, with every match played in a fierce yet friendly spirit.
The Sports That Bring Us Together
- Kabbadi – A thrilling contact sport now played globally, with several HSS (UK) members having proudly represented England at the Kabbadi World Cup.
- Kho Kho – A fast-paced, tactical team game of tag that has gained international status. Many HSS (UK) members showcased their skill presenting Team England at the 2025 Kho Kho World Cup in Dehli, India.
- Ring – A dynamic sport played with a rubber ring, following rules similar to netball, offering both challenge and enjoyment. For younger participation, there’s also the much-loved 5-a-side Football.
