Honouring Our Services : The Spirit of Raksha Bandhan

The tying of the rakhi – a sacred thread – around another’s wrist is far more than a simple tradition. It represents the enduring bonds of protection, unity, and mutual respect that hold our society together. While Raksha Bandhan is often celebrated a a festival between siblings, it’s deeper message extends to the entire community: a shared commitment to look for one another.

Each year, around the time of Raksha Bandhan, HSS (UK) branches across the country visit local police station, fire services, ambulance crews, the Mayor’s office, and members of the armed forces. During these visits, HSS (UK) members tie rakhis on the wrists of these dedicated professionals – a gesture of gratitude and respect for their selfless service.

This heartfelt act of honours the men and women who work tirelessly to keep our society safe, often putting the needs of others before their own. Through the simple yet profound act of tying a rakhi, HSS(UK) reinforces the spirit of unity, appreciation, and community responsibility that likes at the heart of our culture.

Through initiatives like these, HSS (UK) continues to nurtures values of compassion and service, reminding us that true protection comes from caring for one another — as one united family.

I am so grateful to HSS (UK) for providing a postive enviorment where my  children learn discipline, respect, teamwork, and pride in the heritage. It’s wonderful to see them grow into confident young leaders while giving back to society through Sewa Projects.”
